Had a chance the other Saturday to attempt to shoot a Tornado Fighter. This aircraft was available in three primary variants – Tornado IDS (interdictor/strike) Fighter bomber. – The suppression of enemy air defences Tornado ECR (electronic combat/reconnaissance) – and the Tornado ADV (air defence variant) interceptor.
Just guessing I would think this one is the IDS variant – the Fighter bomber.
1, This photo clearly shows the wing in the swept forward position to allow greater lift at low speeds.
2, The wings here look to be in the mid position.
3, Here the wings are swept back to allow high speed flight, although in this case it’s still sub-sonic. Notice the water vapour curling over the wing tips.
